Jose Mourinho plans to grant Anthony Martial more opportunities to play down the centre should the Frenchman decide to remain at Manchester United next season, according to reports.
The 22-year-old, who enjoyed an excellent start to the season, has been reduced to just three Premier League starts since the January arrival of Alexis Sanchez.
Martial is understood to be disappointed with his recently diminished role at Old Trafford and his representatives are yet to accept terms of a new contract put forward by the club.
And according to the Mail‘s Simon Jones, the manager is sympathetic towards the concerns of the forward, who is still determined to succeed at Man United, and is expected to offer him more opportunities to play up front next season.
Mourinho has made it clear that Romelu Lukaku will always be his go-to striker but this should not mean that any other option is out of the question.
It has been surprising that the 55-year-old has not followed up on using the three at the back system employed against Watford and Arsenal in December, which saw Martial line up alongside Lukaku to devastating effect, since the turn of the year.
United have found themselves occasionally bogged down with Lukaku up front this season. That is simply natural in a long, topsy turvy season. But why has Mourinho been so reluctant to opt for something different?
