Marouane Fellaini will hold another round of contract talks with Manchester United chiefs this week and demand a two-year contract worth over £100,000 a week, according to reports.
It has for some time looked as if Fellaini, whose contract expires in June, would leave Man United for free in the summer after failing to reach an agreement over a new deal with the club.
But Jose Mourinho, in a surprising turn of events, made it clear following the Belgian’s injury time winner against Arsenal last weekend that the midfielder was “close” to agreeing a new contract at Old Trafford, stressing that he wanted to stay at the club.
And according to the Times‘ Paul Hirst, talks with Fellaini have not ceased completely and will once again commence this week, with Fellaini set to demand a two year deal worth over £100,000 a week to stay at United over the summer.
Difficulties have emerged with Fellaini due to the club’s policy of not handing anything grander than one year rolling contracts to players aged 30 or over.
But the Belgian, who turned 30 recently, is intent on making the most of what will be his last ‘big’ contract in his career. And with Mourinho keen to keep him and Ed Woodward keen to go along with the Portuguese’s plans for the squad, you wouldn’t be surprised if he does get the deal he wants.
