Romelu Lukaku will recover from an ankle injury sustained against Arsenal in time to face Chelsea in the FA Cup final on May 19, according to reports.
The Belgian, who has 27 goals to his name this season, came off early in the second half of Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Arsenal.
There were early fears that Lukaku had sustained ligament damage and would be a doubt for the FA Cup final clash with his former club.
But according to ESPN‘s Rob Dawson, sources close to the club have confirmed that Lukaku’s injury was not as bad as first feared.
The 24-year-old is likely to miss out on meaningless Premier League clashes with Brighton and Hove Albion and West Ham United but will return to the side in time for the final league game of the season against Watford.
Mourinho recently referred to Lukaku as his “sergeant on the pitch”, such is the relentlessly bullish and determined way he goes about his job at the masthead of attack, bringing not just goalscoring prowess and physical power but indeed presence – the ability to serve as a genuine focal point capable of bringing the best out of those behind him.
Needless to say, having him out of the starting XI for Chelsea would be unthinkable for Mourinho.
