Jose Mourinho met with Antonio Conte to clear the air at Old Trafford back in February after the pair came to blows earlier in the season.
The feud begun when Conte accused Mourinho of having senile dementia after the Portuguese claimed he didn’t need to act like a clown on the touchline.
Mourinho hit back by bringing up the Italian’s relationship with match-fixing, to which Conte replied by calling him a “little man”.
But the 55-year-old, speaking to Portuguese media outlet Record, revealed that the pair had met following Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Chelsea back in late February to resolve the issue.
“After the game in Manchester, I invited him to come to my office,” he said. “We talked. Nothing’s wrong.”
I like to think that Mourinho is only saying this – through gritted teeth – for PR reasons.
Yeah, you know, we talked, it’s fine. What really happened in there, Jose? The only thing I can possibly imagine is a fully fledged ruck between the two, tops off, Mourinho playing dirty and stabbing Conte with a pencil, the Italian all arms and grunting, thrashing away in anger. Just one big screaming match with a huge scrap which ends in the pair sitting slumped against the wall on opposite sides of the room, panting hard and staring at each other with cold, surly contempt, before Conte silently walks out, wig now back on, back to the Chelsea coach with a black eye.
Sadly, this didn’t happen, but perhaps we are just one bad referring decision – or one classic Mourinho smash and grab performance – away from seeing something similar tomorrow. We can only hope.
