Alex Iwobi has insisted that Arsenal are ‘very confident’ of progressing in the Europa League despite Atletico Madrid’s advantage (via The Standard).
Thursday night marks Arsenal’s biggest match of the season as the Gunners travel to Spain to take on Atletico Madrid in the second leg of their Europa League semi-final.
Despite dominating ten-men Atletico in the first leg, the Gunners could only muster a 1-1 draw which gives the Spanish side the advantage.
Arsenal need to score at a stadium where Atletico have kept 11 consecutive clean sheets but it seems that the Gunners players are unfazed by the task.
“We are very confident,” Alex Iwobi said in an interview. “We were unfortunate not to get the result we wanted against them in the first leg but we are very confident and believe we can go to the final.”
The final would set the stage for a perfect farewell for Arsene Wenger, giving the Frenchman an opportunity to win his first European title with the Gunners.
“We are really motivated – especially by what he has done for the club,” Iwobi went on. “We are trying to make him end the season on a high.
“And not just for him but for ourselves as well so we are doing our best to get the result.”
It’s going to be a tough match on Thursday evening with the Gunners at a clear disadvantage. However, Arsenal have had a habit in recent years of pulling out huge away wins in European competitions in matches. Let’s hope Thursday sees just that.
