Arsene Wenger has revealed what he thought of Konstantinos Mavropanos’ debut in the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday (via Arsenal.com).
It was a disappointing end to what was a relatively pleasing match for Arsenal as Marouane Fellaini headed a last-minute winner for Manchester United.
The 2-1 defeat was a better result than many Arsenal fans expected but given the way the match went, the Gunners came away discouraged.
Konstantinos Mavropanos made his debut at Old Trafford and put in a fine performance for the Gunners. Now, Arsene Wenger has given his thoughts on the youngster’s match.
“Mavropanos, in training he has shown top quality but then you always have a question mark as long as you don’t see that under pressure in a big game,” Wenger said after the match.
“Until that, you don’t know. The big players do better in the competition than in training, they make a career, the others
“We have many players at our level who do less well in competition than in training. That was the question mark and I think he did well. He surprised everybody by his quality today.”
It was good to see Konstantinos Mavropanos making such an impressive first appearance for the club. He’s clearly a talented young player and will be hoping that more first-team opportunities head his way in the coming weeks and years.
