Arsene Wenger has revealed how many signings he thinks the new Arsenal manager will need to make if the Gunners are to challenge for the title (via Arsenal.com).
Whoever the next Arsenal manager will be, they are going to have a tough job on their hands, regardless of what happens in the next few weeks.
The Gunners may or may not be in the Champions League but they are certainly well away from the rest of the big six and a Premier League title challenge seems a long way away.
It’s clear that Arsenal need a few more signings in the first-team and now, Arsene Wenger has revealed exactly how many he thinks the new manager will have to make.
“What I want to say is that this team has quality,” Wenger said in his pre-match press conference.
“Two years ago we finished second in the league, last year we made 75 points and won the FA Cup, we won the Community Shield, we were in the League Cup final.
“We are in the semi-final of the Europa League so these players have quality and I am convinced that we can show that again before the end of the season.
“I am convinced in the future, with two or three additions, this team has the quality to fight for the title.”
It’s a bold claim but certainly, one not too far from the truth. Arsenal probably need four or five players to challenge for the Premier League title with a goalkeeper, two centre-backs, a central midfielder and a right winger all necessary purchases.
