Ed Woodward is considering Mauricio Pochettino, Zinedine Zidane and Diego Simeone for the permanent managerial position at Manchester United, according to the Telegraph‘s Mike Whalley.
The Tottenham Hotspur manager remains the primary target in the eyes of both Man United officials and supporters, although doubts remain over whether he wants a move elsewhere, with his current club set to move into a their new stadium over the next few months.
Zidane and Simeone have been mentioned as alternative candidates along with Massimiliano Allegri and Gareth Southgate.
According to Whalley, however, Woodward is closely looking at the aforementioned managerial trio as options for the permanent role.
It appears Woodward is not seriously thinking about Ole Gunnar Solskjaer becoming the next permanent boss, despite the Norwegian winning his first seven games as caretaker manager. His parent club, Molde, have stressed they expect Solskjaer to return in May as planned. There is no deviation on that as things stand.
The consensus among supporters is fast leaning towards wanting Solskjaer as manager. A more predominant angle, though, continues to be Pochettino, who has demonstrated emphatically the traits demanded of a United manager: a long term plan, proper coaching, attacking football, team unity.
Anybody else would, you suspect, serve as an unpopular choice among supporters.
