Manchester United are reportedly targeting Southampton defender Cedric Soares as Antonio Valencia‘s replacement with Jose Mourinho said to be revamping his entire defence.
The Portuguese manager has already admitted his happiness with his attackers and instead will focus on improving his defence and midfield in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Part of that improvement means he will pay particular attention to his full-back spots especially with Matteo Darmian looking to be on his way out of Old Trafford.
Valencia is now 32 years of age and while he is physically in good shape he’s certainly still in the latter stages of his career.
The Ecuadorian has been a long serving player at United and will not be disrespected when the time comes for him to move on.
According to Metro, the Mirror report that Cedric is seen as the ideal player to provide cover for Antonio before eventually replacing him in the starting XI.
The former Wigan man would ideally get the same kind of treatment Michael Carrick has received so far this season by Mourinho and the club.
The Englishman is set to hang up his boots at the end of the season but will remain with the Red Devils as part of the backroom staff in a coaching capacity.
