Sanchez: This is why playing for Man United is better than Arsenal

Alexis Sanchez has noted that playing for Manchester United is an altogether totally different experience compared to when he was at Arsenal.

The Chilean arrived at Old Trafford over the January transfer window and initially struggled to enmesh himself in the side’s attacking lineup.

But he has started to look like the No.7 supporters were hoping he would be in recent week, claiming two goals and three assists in his last five games.

And Sanchez, reflecting on the difference between United and Arsenal, admitted that he has found the transition of moving to such a big club testing at times.

“It is very different here,” he said. “I think United is a club with more history and we want to win trophies next year.”

“We need to keep progressing; United is a big club, to which I am still adapting, and I am looking forward to giving everything I’ve got next year and aiming to win everything there is to win.”

Mourinho summed it up nicely when the swap deal involving Sanchez and Henrikh Mkhitaryan went through: the Armenian would be joining a ‘fantastic’ club, while Alexis was heading to a ‘great’ one.

That is why the 29-year-old noted it was ‘very different’ at Old Trafford. The whole size, shape and feel of this club is from a totally different fabric to that of Arsenal, a once great side which has over the last few years started to choke on its own vomit.

At United and under Mourinho, however, the demands are fierce; the expectation is enormous, as if the whole world was always watching you.

And that, I think, is worth remembering when looking back on Sanchez’s first couple of months in a United. He was not just acclimatising to a new playing style; he was, and still is, acclimatising to a different scope of expectation – a new sort of ethic – as well.
