Real Madrid are prepared to dispense with Gareth Bale along with either Toni Kroos or Luka Modric as makeweights in deals to sign Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial and David de Gea.
The European champions are aware of Jose Mourinho’s admiration of Bale and have pin-pointed Martial, who has only made two starts since Alexis Sanchez’s arrival, as a potential replacement for the injury prone Welshman.
Zinedine Zidane is also conscious of Pogba’s precarious situation under Mourinho, while Madrid’s interest in De Gea has yet to fully subside.
And according to M.E.N‘s Samuel Luckhurst, Madrid have asked to remain informed about the situation of the United trio, and will use Bale alongside either Kroos or Modric as bait to push through a de facto swap deal in the summer.
The least likely of the United trio to leave, somewhat ironically, is De Gea, who is relaxed about his future and is expected to pen a new deal ahead of the World Cup.
As for Martial and Pogba, losing them would be enormously unpopular among United supporters. The idea of swapping Bale (29 in a few weeks and injury prone) for Martial (22) is a terrible one. And while Modric and Kroos are two players objectively much better than Pogba, their ages once again – 32 and 28 respectively – ought to be taken into account as well.
