Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has denied that a player’s ability to consistently perform has nothing to do with his age.
The Portuguese manager has criticised his squad plenty lately, focussing on their failure to consistently perform at acceptable levels.
As harsh as he’s been, fans agree with what he’s saying as they’ve witnessed two sides of the same coin in their United players.
Mourinho’s men defeated Manchester City just last week by securing an insane comeback win but lost to West Brom on Sunday to leave supporters with mixed feelings.
The former Real Madrid man was not impressed with his players and blasted them for failing to put in decent shifts on a regular basis.
According to Breaking News, Jose said: “Consistency has nothing to do with age. It has to do with personality, has to do with the way you live for football, what is your priority in your life, your ambitions.
“It has not to do with age. I met players 30-years-old, not consistent at all, and I found boys of 18, 19, 20, real men, real pros, so it’s not about the age.”
Jose Mourinho questioning his Manchester United players’ priorities is not necessarily surprising but it will be interesting to see how they respond.
First up is Bournemouth on Wednesday evening in the Premier League but the more testing match will be against Tottenham on Sunday in the FA Cup semi-finals.
United will definitely be hurting following their shock loss to West Brom but will have little time to recover from it and will need to move on quickly.
Mourinho can’t afford to see his players fall apart now with the top four race and FA Cup trophy still very much on the line.
