Man United cruise to victory, these players have sent a message to Mourinho

David de Gea 6 – Had very little to do on his first game as Manchester United captain, with the hosts unable to find a quality final ball. 21 clean sheets this season and counting.

Matteo Darmian 5 – On his first Premier League start since October, the Italian was characteristically the slowest man on the pitch, and more often than not out of position defensively and offensively.

Phil Jones 7 – A very polished defensive performance. Came into the starting XI after another prolonged period away and produced a resolute, crisp display in the box. Battled like a warrior all game.

Chris Smalling 6 – Occasionally drifted out of position, leaving the likes of Josh King and Jordan Ibe with too much space, but scored Man United’s opener – his third away goal in as many games – and improved towards the end.

Luke Shaw 6 – An encouraging display from the Englishman. Positioned himself well on the left hand side and never looked overwhelmed by Bournemouth’s counterattacks. Could have perhaps got forward more often.

Ander Herrera 7 – Provided a truly sublime pass to split Bournemouth’s defence in the buildup to United’s opener and, more importantly, battled indefatigably at the base of midfield, winning balls and moving play forward with his usual rampant energy.

Marouane Fellaini 6 – Gave the visitors a useful route to get the ball forward quickly and manipulated the ball very nicely, often picking out Pogba or someone further forward. Faded slightly as the game went on and could have entered the box more often.

Paul Pogba 7 – Jose Mourinho wanted the Frenchman to keep things simple, and he did to storming effect. Looked the crispest player on the pitch, driving forward with power and passing with precision. Supplied an excellent assist for Lukaku kill the game. He absolutely has to start at Wembley.

Jesse Lingard 7 – Another sprightly, effective display at No.10. Claimed a pinpoint assist and received plenty of joy picking the ball up from midfielders and breaking through the lines with speed.

Anthony Martial 6 – There were a few rusty touches – as to be expected, really – but the Frenchman’s innate talent on the ball was there to see in a selection of lively bursts down the left hand side. Played a key role in Lukaku’s goal, flicking the ball to Pogba to break away.

Marcus Rashford 7 – Gave Bournemouth’s back four plenty of problems with his raw pace at No.9, bringing United up the pitch and handling the ball smartly around the box.

Substitutes

Romelu Lukaku 7 – Came on and, within minutes, claimed his 27th goal of the season, expertly lifting Pogba’s through ball over Asmir Begovic to kill the game.
