Jose Mourinho has praised Manchester City despite Manchester United’s dramatic derby day victory on Saturday evening.
The Portuguese Man United boss congratulated his side’s opposition at the weekend for their imminent title victory.
Man City would have lifted the Premier League trophy and been crowned champions had they beaten by United. However, three second-half goals, with a brace from Paul Pogba and a winner from Chris Smalling, meant United delayed the party.
That didn’t stop Mourinho praising his counterpart Pep Guardiola for soon becoming champions.
“They’re going to win the title and deservedly. They gave no chance to the others,” Mourinho said.
He also outlined his hope that City will beat Tottenham Hotspur next week, which will help United in their aim to secure the second-placed spot in the league.
“Hopefully City needs to beat Spurs to win the title because our challenge is to finish second,” he continued. “I now have a chance to congratulate City on their title. They are going to win, they deserve the title.”
Mourinho was delighted with the result, but wasn’t overly enthusiastic, instead letting the focus being on his players who mastered a fantastic result, one which will go down as one of the best in the history of the fixture.
“It’s a very important result for us,” Mourinho asserted.
“We needed a result to finish in the top four. To finish second was very important.
“We’re not the team people think we are. We’re not as bad as people think. I’m not a bad manager as people think i am. We beat Liverpool, Chelsea. Manchester City.”
