Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has admitted he wants Marouane Fellaini to stay amidst reports of the player leaving the club for free this summer.
The Belgian international’s contract runs out at the end of the current Premier League campaign and it appeared he was set to leave Old Trafford.
Turkish clubs and even PSG were marked as potential destinations but Mourinho has at least made it clear of his own intentions for Fellaini.
The former Everton man was often made the scapegoat for United in their more disappointing days but the Portuguese manager clearly values him.
It’s fair to say Jose has gotten the best out of him, more so than Louis van Gaal or even David Moyes did for that matter.
The former Real Madrid manager said: “I think so. I think a player that grabs the crest after scoring is telling clearly that he wants to stay. I want him to stay, the club wants him to stay, I think he will stay, it is nearly there.”
Whether a deal can be struck with the club or not is yet to be seen though it’s unclear what’s holding up the talks with the player.
Perhaps it’s Marouane Fellaini‘s salary that’s in doubt or his agent is causing trouble though the likelihood is that he may be unhappy with his role at Manchester United.
Often used as a rotational option or as Jose Mourinho’s backup plan, it could be that the tenacious midfielder wants promise of regular football.
