Sevilla will seek to ward off interest from Manchester United in defender Clement Lenglet by offering the Frenchman a new contract this summer, according to reports from Spain.
Jose Mourinho has expressed interest in landing another centre-back this summer, with Tottenham Hotspur’s Toby Alderweireld and Barcelona’s Samuel Umtiti emerging as the two main targets.
Barcelona have also expressed interest in the Sevilla defender, who played both legs against Man United in the Champions League earlier this year, as a potential replacement for Umtiti should the defender leave.
And according to ABC de Sevilla, the Andalusian club does not want to sanction a move away for Lenglet and will reward the 22-year-old for an impressive campaign by handing him a new deal in the summer.
The defender’s current deal includes a release clause of just £25m and Sevilla are desperate to change that as soon as possible. Lenglet’s agent has already started talks with the club ahead of securing a significant pay rise for his client in an attempt to ward off United and Barcelona.
United’s priority in the summer lies at full-back but continued injury problems in the centre-back role for Mourinho this season has made adding further reinforcements necessary.
