Cesc Fabregas will not be giving up on finishing in the top four this season as they continue to chase Spurs for Champions League qualification.
Over the weekend Chelsea beat a well-organised Swansea side away from home, with Fabregas scoring the winner in the 1-0 win and cutting the gap to Spurs to two points.
Spurs take on Watford at Wembley on Monday night, which is their game in hand over Chelsea. If Spurs come out of this game with a win they will be five points clear of Chelsea with three games remaining.
Fabregas told ESPN that the race is not over just yet.
We won, so they will probably feel that they need to do well and not drop points anymore. But the advantage is for them because it’s not up to us.
Even if we win every game and they do well, we will not be in the Champions League next year, so that’s why I would prefer to be in their position. We just have to keep on winning, but they obviously have the advantage because they are on top.
Liverpool, who look set to make this year’s Champions League final slipped up at home on Saturday against relegation-threatened Stoke City.
Chelsea sit six points behind Liverpool, but they have a game in hand and the Reds have to travel to Stamford Bridge this weekend in a huge game in the race for the top four.
We have been winning games, not comfortably, and that is the most important thing. Sometimes when you are in a dip of form and you are struggling to get points, to win whatever it takes, to do it is always positive.
I think we’ve been doing well that way, because every team we play is fighting for something. You could see that with Swansea and it will be the same when Huddersfield come to Stamford Bridge. We have had to dig in in certain moments and we are ready to do that.
The goal against Swansea at the weekend was the Spaniard’s first goal in the league since August.
The Blues will be looking to keep the pressure on Spurs and Liverpool to save a poor season for Conte and his men. A top-four finish and an FA Cup final win would certainly help towards saving the season and maybe even Conte’s job.
