Gareth Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett has insisted his client will not leave Real Madrid in the summer.
The Welshman was touted by Jose Mourinho ahead of the UEFA Super Cup but manager Zinedine Zindane made it clear that he wouldn’t be sold.
However, Bale is expected to leave the Bernabeu following another season plagued by injury problems, with Real planning considerable changes to their squad in the summer.
But Barnett, adopting the same line as always, noted that Bale would not be going anywhere over the transfer window.
“Gareth is a Real Madrid player and loves Real Madrid and Real Madrid love Gareth,” he said.
“All this talk about leaving is written by reporters who have no idea what is going on and who need to write something and don’t care if it is true or not.”
Barnett is probably right in saying that the commentariat, specifically those in Spain, have very little idea about Madrid’s stance on Bale, or what the winger wants to do in the transfer window.
What they do know, however, is that Madrid – having made no major signings last summer and fallen 15 points behind Barcelona in La Liga this season – will make some considerable changes in the summer. Big investments, players being dispensed with, and possibly even a managerial change should Zidane fail to win the Champions League.
And you find it hard to imagine Bale, following another lukewarm and frustrating season, not getting caught up in the frenzy over the summer.
