Ole Gunnar Solskjaer noted in Friday’s press conference that he would be willing to let Sir Alex Ferguson give Manchester United players a team talk ahead of the clash with Liverpool at Old Trafford.
The meeting with Jurgen Klopp’s side is even bigger than usual: a United win would knock Liverpool off top spot; a Liverpool win would see them go three points clear of Manchester City.
Sir Alex reportedly spoke to players soon after Solskjaer was appointed and has visited Carrington to watch the team train on a couple of occasions.
Speaking at a press conference, Solskjaer declared he would let Sir Alex speak with the players on Sunday.
“But he would be welcome to have his talk to the players if he wanted to, the Gaffer, because we know how much it meant for him to overtake Liverpool,” he said. “I think our players know what it means for everyone at Man United.”
It should be noted that no official plan is underway for Sir Alex to address United players in the dressing room. The notion was suggested to Solskjaer by a journalist in response to comments made by Jurgen Klopp on Thursday.
But it is a nice idea. The Gaffer would not need to give any big speech. A few choice words, delivered in that voice of pure authority, will have United players sprinting through brick walls.
