Former Liverpool man Graeme Souness has stated his belief that Manchester United’s Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger are incomparable.
Football fans across the globe love to compare the two legends due to the nature of the length of their jobs and how they’ve been at the top for so long.
Ferguson retired in 2013 but five years later, Wenger is still showing no signs of quitting his job as the Gunners’ boss.
The Frenchman however has seen his stature in the game decline as his team continues to underperform with there even being calls for him to quit his current post.
Souness is relentless in his assessment of the two managers and points to their trophy collections as an easy reason why they shouldn’t be mentioned in the same breath.
According to 101 Great Goals, Graeme wrote in his Sunday Times column: “[Wenger’s] been there 22 years and only won three leagues and seven FA Cups. It’s totally wrong to compare him with Fergie at Manchester United because he’s not in the same league when it comes to silverware.
“United won 13 league titles, five FA Cups, four League Cups, the Champions League [twice] and the Cup Winners’ Cup in his 27 years there.
“Fergie retired in 2013 after securing a 13th Premier League title. Wenger won’t be going out as a winner.”
Sir Alex is widely regarded as the best Premier League manager ever with their even being debates that he was the best manager in history as well.
The Scotsman certainly makes a case for himself with his huge trophy haul and even enjoyed success with the teams he managed before United.
Many fans have also enjoyed opening the debate about how the retired manager would now handle himself in the current Premier League climate and modern football.
Large sections of supporters believe he would easily dominate everything in the footballing world should he have the financial muscle the Red Devils and English football overall enjoys.
However, the focus is now on the club’s current manager, Jose Mourinho who’s unlucky to have the same length of career at Manchester United but could help restore them to their former glories before departing.
