Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has warned Chelsea against the idea of replacing Antonio Conte this summer.
As reported by the London Evening Standard, Guardiola admitted that Luis Enrique, the bookies’ favourite to take the job, would have a tough act to follow.
The Italian’s future at Stamford Bridge remains in doubt as the Blues face the prospect of finishing outside the top four just a year after lifting the trophy.
Reports have heavily linked Conte with a return to Italy, while Alessandro Costacurta has failed to hide his desire to bring the 48-year-old back into the country’s national team.
Guardiola is known to be close with Enrique, the pair played together during their time with Barcelona.
While the City boss hinted that the former Barcelona manager would be a success in England, he was quick to praise the job that Conte has done at Chelsea.
Luis Enrique is one of the best, best, best managers. I know him very well. He is a friend of mine. I know he can do whatever he wants, but Antonio is the manager of Chelsea.
What Antonio has done here in the Premier League, maybe the people don’t realise.
He introduced another way to attack with five at the back, another system, a lot of teams, even Arsenal, had to do a lot of imitating to do that.
Tactically he is a master, he did it amazingly with the national team with Italy and when he went to Turin (Juventus). I think Conte is going to give something to English football. I’m sure of that.
