Manchester United legend Gary Neville believes Alexis Sanchez has been playing in the wrong position and that his poor performance vs Crystal Palace was reflective of that.
The Chilean star has been pretty much undroppable for Jose Mourinho since his arrival but he has struggled to make a true impact at his new club.
Known for his goalscoring ability, Sanchez has scored nothing other than his first goal for United since securing a move during the January transfer window.
While he hasn’t necessarily been underperforming, he has been underwhelming as Mourinho aims to try to bring the best out of him.
Neville is of the opinion that Alexis is simply dropping too deep in his attempt to influence games and believes he would be of more use further forward.
According to Give Me Sport, Gary said on Monday Night Football: “Alexis was poor tonight, there’s no doubt about that. He was trying to play one-twos from 40 yards from goal.
“He is no good from there. For me, I see Alexis Sanchez as being at his best in the left channel, attacking defenders, committing them, playing one-two combination.
“He has to try and get in those positions for Manchester United.”
The Red Devils have certainly been unbalanced since the former Barcelona’s signing and it’s no surprise he’s struggling to fit in.
Fans can now recognise that he was more of a luxury signing than one that was absolutely needed, perhaps he was signed only to keep Manchester City from getting him.
Whatever the reasons, Jose has to find out how to best find balance for the team and may have to make some sacrifices in order to do so.
Manchester United have seen Alexis Sanchez attempting to be far more creative than perhaps he was during his time at Arsenal.
Just how the former Chelsea boss manages to stick his best 11 players into the starting XI will surely define his legacy as it did with Louis Van Gaal.
