Manchester United have reportedly had their head turned by Wolves star Ruben Neves and are aiming to sign him in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Jose Mourinho has already publicly stated his desire to invest in the club’s midfield department due to some potential losses.
United are yet to tie Marouane Fellaini down to a contract extension despite the Portuguese manager’s concerns as the current deals expires in the summer.
Reports from Turkey have also claimed that the Belgian is set to leave the club in the summer to join Besiktas as he aims for more first team football.
However, the reports that claim Neves is a target for Mourinho are claiming so for different reasons and not just for Fellaini’s potential departure.
According to the Bristol Post, Manchester Evening News reports that the Red Devils are chasing Ruben in a bid to replace the retiring Michael Carrick.
The Englishman is set to hang up his boots at the end of the season with Jose hoping he will join the club’s backroom staff.
The former Chelsea manager is relying on Carrick’s experience as well as knowledge of the club and it’s history in order to continue it’s traditions.
There is also believed to be genuine ability in terms of his coaching and so Jose Mourinho wishes to take advantage of it all rather than let him slip through the cracks.
Ruben Neves would represent the ideal signing, young and willing to eventually fill in the veteran midfielder’s boots in the long run.
