Featuring on the left hand side of a midfield trio, the Frenchman marauded up the left channel and supplied an inch perfect assist for Kylian Mbappe. He then sent a swerving pin-point free-kick into the bottom corner after half time to double his side’s lead. Dominated the game from start to finish, showing a sense of verve absent from his recent performances under Jose Mourinho.
Delivered a lively display on the left hand side, making a series of penetrative runs down the channel and linking up well with Mbappe, but didn’t have much of an impact in the final third. That front three of Mbappe, Martial and Ousmane Dembele could do some serious damage in years to come. Pure sauce.

Produced another organised, balanced display at the base of midfield for Serbia as they claimed a 2-0 win over Nigeria. Without doubt the most composed on the ball out of anyone else on the pitch. Came off after 65 minutes.
Only lasted 22 minutes against Spain until suffering a collision with Diego Costa in the build-up to their first goal, clutching his knee in obvious pain. Supporters of both Man United and Argentina will just hope the knock isn’t too serious.
Couldn’t do much about Nicolas Otamendi’s close range header but had hardly anything to do as Spain ran riot against Argentina, romping to a 6-1 win. He even claimed an assist for Isco, launching a pin-point ball straight through their back four, moving ahead of Alvaro Morata in the tally for assists this season in the process.
A nightmare evening for the Argentine, who made his first start in two months and – put simply – totally capitulated along with the rest of his defenders. No structure, no balance, no firmness. Isco made an absolute mockery of him.
The Englishman continued to press his case to start ahead of Dele Alli at the World Cup with another decisive moment for his country against Italy, thinking on his feet after Raheem Sterling was fouled to take a quick free-kick and set up Jamie Vardy’s goal with a pin-point pass. He has, it seems, gone from being an outsider to an integral part of Gareth Southgate’s set-up.
Did his chances of getting on the plane no harm whatsoever with a mature, ambitious display at left-wing back, comfortably dealing with the threat of Davide Zappacosta and showing his attacking intent with a series of bending crosses. He could prove to be useful direct outlet for Harry Kane in Russia.
Came on with 20 minutes remaining but, following Jesse Lingard‘s concomitant exit, couldn’t get much going as England’s momentum notably slowed down towards the end.
