Former Tottenham star Ryan Mason has claimed that Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United need a massive overhaul of players.
The Portuguese manager has brought in a fair few players since coming to Old Trafford last season but it appears that even more quality is needed.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Romelu Lukaku, Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelof and Alexis Sanchez have all been brought in so far by Mourinho.
However, United fans have also recognised the need for some dead wood to be moved on from the David Moyes and Louis Van Gaal eras.
Reports also claim that the board at the club feel the same way and will back Jose when the summer transfer window opens up.
According to the Sport Review, Mason said to Sky Sports: “I don’t think so [United have the quality]. They need a massive overhaul of players to win the title next season.”
For all the additions and the players who were sold, it’s clear that there are players who simply don’t fit in with Jose Mourinho’s philosophy or are even good enough for the Red Devils.
Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind are the finest examples of that with supporters also calling on the club to move on Chris Smalling.
The defence appears to be the main area for Mourinho to address and since he’s already confirmed his happiness with the club’s attacking talent, it seems he will focus on strengthening his back line.
Manchester United’s midfield could also do with some work but only to add depth since Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic are already quality starting XI choices.
