Former Scotland star believes McTominay's form has been 'frightening'

Former Scotland star Colin Hendry has lauded Manchester United’s Scott McTominay for his recent form, believing he’s been ‘frightening’.

The youngster has received due plaudits after his performances with the latest one against Chelsea in particular standing out to fans.

McTominay shockingly started the crucial clash vs the Blues and walked away with an even better reputation than he currently holds.

Tasked with marking one of the Premier League’s best talents in Eden Hazard, the academy product did not shirk, playing so well that the Belgian was substituted off.

Hendry has hailed his potential fellow national and stated his belief that Scott is in the first team due to merit, nothing else.

According to Sport360, Colin said: “That’s the frightening thing, how well he’s done with the players around him and who you consider United can go and buy at the drop of a hat.

“Scott’s done well and he’s there on merit. The most important thing is what you do in the game and he’s done himself justice by playing well, and that’s why he’s been selected.

“If that’s a position Jose’s looking to maybe strengthen next year he’ll be saying to himself now ‘you know what, I’ve got something better than what I can buy’ and save himself £30-40m in that position and stick with him, and try and get the rest of the team to gel better than what they have done.”

Scott McTominay may have a brighter future at United than he may have initially anticipated at the start of the season.

With Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Ander Herrera, Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick all fighting for a spot in a two man midfield, the 21 year old’s chances seemed bleak.

However, Carrick and Fellaini struggled with injuries while Herrera struggled to find any type of consistently good form.

Jose Mourinho’s decision to switch to a three man midfield recently has also opened up a spot for McTominay to compete in.

With Michael and Marouane’s contracts running out in the summer, the tall midfielder may find himself to be a more important figure than expected.

A capable passer and tackler, if Scott continues to improve then he might quickly rise up the ranks and prove himself to be a true Red Devils’ midfielder.
