Young Chelsea midfielder Ruben Sammut is close to agreeing a move to League One side Portsmouth.
The Portsmouth News report that the Scottish youngster has been training with the club and spent more time on trial during the week.
The midfielder has since returned to Stamford Bridge but manager Kenny Jackett believes a deal is close.
Ruben’s been back in training for the day. He’ll be back at Chelsea over the weekend. It’s another day to look at him and make sure we can work with Ruben towards potentially taking him if we need him.
Sammut, who has never made a first-team appearance for Chelsea, is out of contract at the end of the season.
The Portsmouth boss is a known admirer of Sammut and has also talked up the chances of working with Chelsea on future transfers.
Chelsea’s a good club with very good players and it’d be a terrific relationship if we could develop it. We’d be keen to do that, as we would any club.
The former Premier League side remain in with a chance of reaching the play-offs and securing back-to-back promotions.
Should Pompey fail to secure a place in the Championship next season they’ll be looking to strengthen their squad ahead of a push for promotion.
Sammut has been a regular for the youth sides in recent years but is yet to get his first taste of senior football.
