Barcelona have emerged as shock contenders to sign Manchester United outcast Luke Shaw over the summer, according to reports.
Shaw once again came under fire from Jose Mourinho in the aftermath of Man United’s 2-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion, leaving the 22-year-old exasperated with his manager’s continued public belittling of his performances.
He will understandably leave the club in the summer, with Everton reportedly interested, and his teammates have expressed their shock at how Mourinho attacked him following the FA Cup tie.
And according to the Mirror‘s James Nursey, Barcelona view Shaw, despite his lack of game time under Mourinho, as a viable option at left-back this summer.
Barcelona have also expressed an interest in bringing Daley Blind, whose contract runs out in the summer, to Catalonia as well, which makes you wonder whether Josep Maria Bartomeu is signing players even Mourinho doesn’t rate for pure banter.
On a more serious note, Shaw will need to think carefully about his next destination in the summer. Supporters saw through December that, with a run of games, the Englishman can be a truly powerful asset on the left hand side.
That has been denied to him at Old Trafford, and the same is likely to be the case at the Nou Camp too. Moving to a club that would instead guarantee a starting place seems like the preferable option for a man whose career of late has been derailed by constant sidelining.
