Scholes claims Man Utd still need to invest in this department

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has urged his former club to sign another centre-forward despite Romelu Lukaku’s efforts in front of goal this season.

The Belgian has managed to score 21 goals across all competitions for his side but has still faced plenty of criticism from fans and pundits alike.

Even if Lukaku is considered unable to lead the line for United then some supporters would point to the clubs other options.

Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial are considered to naturally be strikers while Alexis Sanchez has proven himself to be capable of playing in that position as well.

Scholes though believes the Red Devils still need to invest in that department, believing that Romelu needs to be relieved of the pressure on his shoulders.

According to Goal, Paul said: “But I still think a new centre forward is needed. You can’t just keep relying on Lukaku and the other players don’t seem to be centre forwards, they all seem to be wide players.

“So I still think he needs a top centre forward to take a little bit of pressure off Lukaku as well.”

Romelu Lukaku has yet to win over all Manchester United fans and it’s understandable why given the criticisms put against him.

The former Everton man has been blamed of disappearing during big matches and has frustrated supporters with his less than silky first touch.

Lukaku has been often accused of giving the opposition plenty of opportunities to counter due to losing the ball at crucial moments.

Despite all the criticism, the powerful forward has improved remarkably since arriving at the club and his 21 goals cannot be denied as a good return given that the season hasn’t even completed yet.

Romelu’s hold up play, link up play and first touch have all considerably gotten better and while his record against big clubs is basically currently non existent, there’s other causes for it.

He can certainly improve but he would also be correct in blaming his club for isolating him during big matches by using tactics that are hardly getting the best out of him.
