Ian Wright feels that Antonio Conte will want to prove himself in the Champions League, which is why he finds himself under pressure this season.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Debate show, as reported by the Sport Review, Wright feels that Conte will want to prove himself in the Champions League as they prepare for two legs against the might of Barcelona, starting next week.
Conte has come under immense pressure of late after a 3-0 loss to Bournemouth and a 4-1 loss to Watford in their last two games and many believe he could be out of a job if the Blues do not get a good result against West Brom on Monday night.
When quizzed about the Italian, the former Arsenal striker said:
There is a lot of pressure on him with this Champions League game coming up now. He hasn’t really proven in the Champions League in respect of what happened at Juventus.
His main problem is he wants to get himself in the situation to make a mark in the Champions League. He hasn’t done it. They have two games against Barcelona and it will be a mountain too high for them to climb.
If Conte is to get through against Barcelona then an immense amount of pressure will be lifted from his shoulders.
