David de Gea 6 – Had quite literally nothing to do on his 300th Manchester United appearance as David Wagner’s side failed to muster anything of note going forward.
Antonio Valencia 6 – Produced a typically organised, powerful display on the right hand side but took a while to assert himself going forward.
Chris Smalling 7 – A much improved display from what was seen at Wembley: dealt with anything that came into the box and looked measured on the ball.
Marcos Rojo 6 – Could have been tidier in possession at times but managed to cope the physical threat of Laurent Depoitre
Luke Shaw 6 – Another polished display from the Englishman, who held a good position on the left flank and had the pace to keep up with anyone. Lacked presence in the final third.
Nemanja Matic 6 – The Serbian has certainly looked sharper in a Man United shirt but he essentially did the job asked of him, winning the ball off Huddersfield players and shifting the ball around the pitch.
Scott McTominay 7 – A conservative yet subtly effective display. The Scott did what Paul Pogba didn’t on Wednesday and held the midfield line with Matic, finding pockets of space to receive the ball. Kept things simple but helped United tick along.
Juan Mata 7 – Played a crucial role in breaking the visitors down, drifting all over the pitch and steadily wearing Huddersfield down until his perfectly placed cross was powered home by Lukaku.
Jesse Lingard 6 – Didn’t receive the number of touches you’d expect from a No.10 but played a crucial role creating space with some enterprising runs off the ball.
Romeu Lukaku 6.5 – Saw very little of the ball and often frustrated with his first touch, but did what all good strikers do and took the first chance that came his way.
Alexis Sanchez 7 – The best player on the pitch by some distance. Buzzed around the pitch with superb execution and fervour, linking up superbly with teammates all game and taking responsibility from the spot to claim his first Man United goal in the second half.
Substitutes
Paul Pogba 6.5 – Came on against tiring Huddersfield legs and, following a few days of intense criticism, produced a showman-like display on the ball.
