Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata came close to joining Barcelona from Real Madrid this summer, according to Spanish outlet Don Balon.
The Spanish reports claim that Barcelona were in contact with Morata prior to his move to Chelsea.
It became clear that Morata would leave Madrid towards the end of last season and several clubs were interested.

Chelsea and Manchester United were both heavily linked, however, it appears that Barcelona were willing to pay upwards of £88 million for the player.
Morata made his potential suitors aware that he was prioritising game time and ambition over money in his next move.
After the loss of Diego Costa to Atletico Madrid, Chelsea acted swiftly and signed Morata as his direct replacement, ending weeks of speculation.
The Premier League champions were heavily linked with both Morata and Romelu Lukaku, but the latter opted to join Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United.
Chelsea face Barcelona at Stamford Bridge in the first leg of their Champions League clash on Tuesday night.
