Gary Cahill could be set to miss the England World Cup squad due to a lack of form, according to the Times.
The Chelsea captain’s loss of form is reportedly worrying England boss Gareth Southgate. Cahill was dropped for the Champions League tie with Barcelona, as Chelsea secured a draw against the Catalan Giants.
Southgate is reportedly not keen on Cahill, due to his recent drop in form and the fact that England are set to play a 5-3-2 formation.
Cahill has played in all seven of Southgate’s competitive fixtures as England boss. However, with John Stones, Phil Jones and Harry Maguire all going ahead of Cahill, along with Joe Gomez, Cahill could miss out on going to Russia.
It’s been reported that Southgate is also considering using Eric Dier as a central defender, with the Spurs defender being very capable when playing out of the defence, as Southgate hopes England will be able to do this Summer.
