Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola has played down suggestions that he could join the club to work alongside Maurizio Sarri, should the latter takeover this summer.
As reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, Zola dismissed the rumours, claiming that he has not heard anything about them.
Will we both head to Chelsea? Every other week they link me to Chelsea in some capacity, but I know nothing about this hypothesis. On top of that after Birmingham I decided to take a sabbatical year.
Sarri has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge to replace the under-fire Conte.
The 59-year-old is on course to fire Napoli towards a famous Scudetto if they can maintain their form from the first half of the campaign.
Napoli’s style of play has not gone unnoticed and Roman Abramovich is said to be a huge admirer.
Rumours in Italy suggested that Zola could follow Sarri to Stamford Bridge to work alongside him, possibly as an assistant.
Zola, who has been out of work since leaving Birmingham in April 2017, has not endured a managerial career quite like his playing one.
The Italian has endured forgetful spells with the likes of Watford, West Ham and Cagliari all before his most recent appointment at Birmingham.
