Barcelona will be looking to continue their impressive form this season with a win over Chelsea on Tuesday night, their manager Ernesto Valverde has warned.
The La Liga leaders have been in a rough patch of form in recent times but were able to secure a routine win away at Eibar on Saturday.
Valverde is enjoying his maiden campaign with Barcelona and has overseen a strong season with the club so far. He will now turn his focus to Champions League football, though, with a trip to Stamford Bridge awaiting his men.
As quoted by the Mirror, Valverde spoke of how important it is for his side to gain an advantage in the first leg of their round of 16 tie at Chelsea ahead of the return leg at the Nou Camp.
Valverde feels the win over Eibar will give his side a platform to build on ahead of the game at Chelsea.
I don’t care much about Chelsea, our objective was to win again. In Ipurua (Eibar’s stadium) everybody suffers, nobody wins easy, but Tuesday is another story. This match was very important for us – it was crucial for us to win and get the momentum.
We are delighted with how things are going, and that means we are doing something right. Now we must continue.
Chelsea themselves have not been in the greatest form of late but their 4-0 win over Hull City on Friday night in the FA Cup is sure to have given them some much-needed respite.
