Alexis Sanchez’s move to Manchester United will happen in the next 48 hours, or not at all, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed.
Simultaneously, the deal will only go through if Henrikh Mkhitaryan goes the other way in the transfer and joins Arsenal from Man United in a swap-deal. United boss Jose Mourinho spoke of his confidence of the transfer going through and Sanchez joining the Reds in the next couple of days, telling reporters that he’s ‘positive’ and it’s ‘so close’ after his side’s 1-0 win against Burnley on Saturday afternoon.
Wenger, speaking after Arsenal dispatched of Crystal Palace easily with four goals in the opening 22 minutes for a 4-1 victory, told reporters: “Sanchez will only happen if Mkhitaryan comes here, that will be decided in the next 48 hours. It is a possibility.”
It’s a tough situation for Mkhitaryan, who, it has been suggested, would rather stay at United. However, if he stays, the reception from some United fans could, peculiarly given it would show his passion for the club, be negative.
Wenger also told reporters that Sanchez missed Arsenal’s victory against Palace because he was “driving up north” and said, “if you want to have a bet then maybe.”
A deal now seems just hours or days away from completion and announcement. It wouldn’t be surprising to see an announcement come before the end of the weekend, with the Mail Online reporting that terms were finalised today and describing it as a ‘Done Deal’.
Mkhitaryan reportedly reached a ‘total agreement’ with Arsenal on Saturday morning after some days negotiating. Meanwhile, Sanchez is set to have a medical shortly.
