Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Arsenal have made their first signing of the January transfer window (via The Mirror).
The January transfer window has been open since New Year’s Day and it took four whole days for Arsenal to confirm their first signing of the window.
The Gunners could lose the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil in the coming weeks but there will be at least one incoming in the form of 20-year-old, Konstantinos Mavropanos.
Mavropanos is a Greek centre-back has signed for Arsenal from the Superleague side, PAS Giannina for a fee believed to be in the region of £2 million.
However, don’t expect to see the six-foot-four defender in action for the Gunners anytime soon. When asked about the player, Wenger confirmed the signing but said that he is not ready for the Premier League just yet.
“Yes, but he’s not ready to play for us,” Wenger said on Wednesday night. “We’ll give him out on loan.”
It’s good to see the Gunners are investing in young players. Konstantinos Mavropanos seems like an exciting prospect and is certainly one for the future. Let’s hope he has a good spell out on loan and can perhaps play a role for Arsenal in the coming years.
