It’s a fixture which Arsenal have lost on three of the last seven occasions and after Swansea City’s 1-0 victory over Liverpool this week, they may be in store for another tricky match.
There has been some wonderful matches between the two teams in the last few years and now, Arsene Wenger has given his team news ahead of next week’s clash.
“Giroud should be back in the squad for Swansea,” Wenger said in his pre-match press conference. “For Welbeck, it’s too early. That’s basically it.”
Wenger was then asked to provide an update on Santi Cazorla. The Spaniard hasn’t played in well over a year and has undergone yet another surgery.
“The latest news is that he is supposed to come back now. He had his latest surgery and we have to see where we go from there.
“I sent him a message two weeks ago and wished him well, hoping to see him soon. He has not come back yet because he has just had surgery.
“The medical people know much better than I do whether he will play again in 2018 before the end of the season.
“Before the end of the season will be hard for him.”
The injury to Santi Cazorla has been one of the worst things to happen to Arsenal in recent years. The Spaniard is amongst the best players at the club and it’s a shame that we may never see him in an Arsenal shirt again. Let’s hope that’s not the case but it’s good to see that the likes of Olivier Giroud have recovered from their setbacks in time for Swansea.
