Alexis Sanchez has revealed he dreamed of playing for Manchester United as a child.
The Chilean forward joined the club on a four-and-a-half year deal from Arsenal on Monday evening as Henrikh Mkhitaryan went the other way.
Sanchez will earn around £300,000-a-week at Man United but told the club’s official television channel, MUTV, that his desire to play at Old Trafford is founded in his childhood.
“Since I was a young lad I’ve always said that my dream was to play for Manchester United,” Sanchez said, “and I’m not just saying that because I’m here now and today it’s come true.
“I always said as a kid that I’d like to play for United and I once spoke to Sir Alex Ferguson about it. We chatted for around 20 minutes. And I told him that my dream was to come here to Manchester United,” Sanchez revealed.
In 2010, Ferguson spoke of Sanchez’s potential while the Chilean international was at Italian side Udinese. In 2011, he joined FC Barcelona. But now Jose Mourinho has brought him to the club of his dreams and Sanchez spoke of how he felt the size of United immediately.
“It really is a massive club, very powerful, and so now, when I got the opportunity to come here, I looked at the badge and my hairs just stood up on end because it’s a powerful club and the biggest in England.
“I believe that at this club it’s possible to achieve anything. The badge says it all, it’s a huge club on a worldwide scale, and I want to come here and win everything: the Premier League, the Champions League, and whatever comes the club’s way in the future.”
United fans will be hoping that Sanchez can be key in guiding the club towards what he wants to win, domestic and continental titles. He’s a fantastic signing and seems truly delighted to be at the club.
