Zlatan Ibrahimovic is set to return to full training with Manchester United imminently after training by himself in recently.
The Swedish striker made a comeback from a very serious ligament blow suffered against Anderlecht at Old Trafford in the UEFA Europa League quarter-final second leg last season.
He came back, initially as a sub and then as a starter, in November and December before Man United boss Jose Mourinho confirmed a decision had been taken to sit out once more to ensure a full recovery.
The Daily Mail now suggest that Ibrahimovic will be back in full training with the rest of the United squad next week. He went out on the pith with the club physio on Friday afternoon having previously been focusing on core fitness in United’s gym at the Carrington Aon Training Complex.
United fans are hopeful that Ibrahimovic can return and play an important part in the rest of the season. The Reds remain in the FA Cup, having beaten Yeovil Town 4-0 on Friday night in the Fourth Round.
They’re set to face Spanish club Sevilla in the UEFA Champions League knockout rounds and are second in the Premier League, needing to make up 12 points on Manchester City.
Ibrahimovic won’t be vital as he was last season when he netted 28 goals as top goalscorer. That’s particularly true now that Mourinho has brought in Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal on a free transfer.
However, fans remember his brilliance and importance last season in transforming United from the dreary Louis van Gaal-side to a more entertaining and successful Mourinho side. Hopefully the veteran striker can see out his final months at United with frequent action in a good fashion, rather than fizzling out as a player of his stature should not.
