Pundit warns Man Utd about their top four hopes, makes bold prediction

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has made a huge prediction on Manchester United’s season that fans certainly won’t enjoy hearing.

The Red Devils are currently 15 points behind fierce rivals and league leaders Manchester City with many neutrals claiming they should put their focus elsewhere.

Jose Mourinho’s side had started their season in fine form before tailing off, allowing the Sky Blues to continue their own run, even remaining unbeaten so far.

United meanwhile have had inconsistencies in recent matches that has cost them dearly in terms of putting together a title challenge.

With other Premier League teams breathing down their necks, the players know they cannot risk dropping anymore points, otherwise they may find themselves involved in a top four scrap.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Paul said: “It’s an interesting one, because I actually don’t think Man Utd are a shoo-in for top four.”

Merson’s claim is a pretty bold one to make considering how, despite things going wrong recently, Manchester United currently look the closest side to challenging Pep Guardiola’s City.

The Citizens are undeniably head and shoulders above the rest but Mourinho’s men are the only club who haven’t underperformed in comparison to the remaining traditional big six.

London sides Arsenal and Tottenham both find themselves in the Europa League spots, with Mauricio Pochettino’s players in particular degrading from last season’s performance.

Spurs managed to finish last season in second place with a respectable tally of 86 points that perhaps may have landed them a title in other campaigns.

The Gunners though have remained somewhat in the same place and supporters must be worried that this has now become the new acceptable status for their club.
