Sergio Romero 6.5 – Made an important stop from Marcus Olsson early on and patrolled his area calmly, although he could probably claim some more crosses, rather than just punching them.
Victor Lindelof 6 – Looked good in possession and didn’t let much past him, but found himself dragged towards the centre too often.
Chris Smalling 7 – Asserted himself early on with a series of commanding blocks and produced a comfortable display on the ball.
Daley Blind 6 – Notably struggled with Tom Lawrence’s pace at times, displaying elements of defensive rustiness, but moved the ball along nicely.
Luke Shaw 7 – Another solid, driven display from the Englishman on the left hand side. Kept Derby quiet going forward and linked up nicely with players further up the pitch.
Ander Herrera 5 – His purpose in this Manchester United side is becoming increasingly unclear. Failed to stop the visitors from bursting in behind the midfield and once again frustrated with his passing.
Paul Pogba 6.5 – Dictated proceedings once again. Looks better suited to that advanced role on the left, moving the ball around with purpose and pinning Derby back, but missed a seemingly unmissable chance to put Man United ahead.
Juan Mata 6.5 – Took up some good positions and produced a characteristically classy performance on the ball, but couldn’t provide that decisive final ball.
Jesse Lingard 7 – Started the game brightly, bursting forward with vigour and linking up well with Mata, and produced a sumptuous strike to put United ahead just as he started to fade in the game.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan 5 – Another frail, confidence sapped display from the Armenian. Lacked precision with his final ball and seemingly drifted through periods of the first half. Hooked off at the break.
Marcus Rashford 6 – Once again, the Englishman gave his all – but you can tell his confidence is waning. Looked ineffective at No.9, missing a golden chance, before improving slightly when put out wide.
Substitutes
Romeu Lukaku 7 – Helped to pin Derby back when he came on in the second half and did brilliantly to force home United’s second goal.
