Manchester United’s squad to face Stoke City at Old Trafford in this weekend’s Monday Night Football fixture has been revealed.
The Reds checked into the Lowry Hotel at with every home game, with Anthony Martial spotted despite manager Jose Mourinho labelling the youngster as a “doubt” for the Premier League clash.
Long-term absentee Eric Bailly remains out while Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who Mourinho confirmed is back on the treatment table having initially returned from a serious knee ligament injury in late November.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan was seen entering the hotel alongside his teammates despite links with Arsenal in recent weeks. That’s with Man United heavily linked with the Gunners’ main man Alexis Sanchez in a possible £35m move that could, some suggest, be completed in the next couple of days.
That transfer saga has been all the talk in recent days, with the game against Stoke merely an interruption to the transfer chatter at this stage.
Right-back and vice-captain Antonio Valencia is back from injury, and the captain’s armband is likely to be handed back to him by Paul Pogba who’s stood in in recent games. However, club captain Michael Carrick could make his first league appearance of the season and second overall after undergoing a heart procedure in early October.
With Ashley Young serving a three-match suspension for violent conduct, Luke Shaw could make his fifth consecutive start for the club as he looks to win Jose Mourinho and stop the Portuguese buying a new left-back either this month or in the summer.
Axel Tuanzebe is included in the squad despite loan interest from Aston Villa, the Championship side managed by former-Red Steve Bruce where another United loanee, Sam Johnstone, currently is.
Goalkeeper Sergio Romero isn’t included, having not been at the Dubai Training Camp either, and so an injury is assumed.
