Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane is willing to offload Manchester United target Toni Kroos next summer in order to fund the signing of Neymar Jr, according to reports from Spain.
David Moyes notably made attempts to sign the Germany midfielder back in 2013 during his time at Bayern Munich but couldn’t get the deal done.
Man United’s interest in the 28-year-old – who recently claimed that Paul Scholes was better than Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard – has persisted ever since and Jose Mourinho will look to sign midfielders over the summer.
And according to Spanish media outlet Sport, Zidane will allow Kroos to find a new club as he looks to amass the funds needed to secure Neymar from Paris Saint Germain.
If you think the idea of a former Barcelona player joining Los Blancos is strange, this was always the plan with Neymar: he just couldn’t go to Real directly from the Nou Camp, using the French giants as a kind of financial conduit – a buffer, almost – to facilitate the move next summer.
Madrid need to spend big next summer having spent next to nothing over 2017, falling down the table as a result, and there will be a number of players heading the other way as a result.
And Man United have the opportunity to cash in big time by replacing Michael Carrick with one of the most complete midfielders in the world.
