Chelsea defender Gary Cahill has lauded his side’s decision to sign Ross Barkley from Everton.
As quoted by the Evening Standard, Cahill hailed Chelsea’s new signing and insisted that at just £15 million, the acquisition was a bargain.
Phenomenal. It’s a great signing – a bargain. When you look at the market in this day and age, it’s a snip for a player like him. I’ve played with him, and trained with him, and I know what he’s capable of. And so does everyone else. He is capable of whatever he wants. He reminds me of Ruben (Loftus-Cheek) in terms of attributes.
Does he have a good left foot and right foot? Is he strong, is he quick? Can he finish? Is he comfortable on the ball? He ticks all the boxes.
Now it’s just ready for a platform for him to go out and express himself. This club will give him that, like they gave me and others. It’s down to him to take it. But it’s a very exciting signing and for the money, it has to be a bargain.
Barkley is currently recovering from a long-term injury but Antonio Conte is understood to be keen on integrating him into the Chelsea side as soon as he possibly can.
Chelsea came close to landing Barkley in the summer transfer window, only for the player to pull the plug in the middle of a medical. However, he now signs a few months later for £20m less than the projected £35m fee from the late stages of the summer.
Cahill will hope that his England teammate can hit the ground running, especially with the 2018 World Cup in Russia closely following the end of the season.
He’s come at a great age, a fantastic age. I’d say come and be confident – not arrogant. And come listen and learn, and watch, the top players at this club, work hard and progress. That’s it.
He knows what to do. You are not talking about a young player here. You’re talking about someone who has over 20 England caps and a player who has played many, many games in the Premier League – even at a young age, so he wont need too much advice from me.
Barkley is yet to make an appearance in the Premier League this season.
