Stoke City striker Peter Crouch has hailed Manchester United and France star Paul Pogba, comparing him to club legend Paul Scholes.
Both players came through the club’s famous academy but their career paths took different turns respectively when compared.
Whilst Scholes remained a one club man, winning just about every trophy available in the game, Pogba left to Italian giants Juventus to ply his trade.
It was at the Old Lady’s team that the talented midfielder started to prove to the world just what he’s capable of from the engine room.
Paul eventually returned to United and is now beginning to fulfil his potential after some heavy criticism during the early stages of his career at the club and Crouch has noticed as well.
According to Give Me Sport, Peter wrote in his Daily Mail column: “United may be less expansive but they are solid and, aside from that, they have Paul Pogba. Like his team, he splits opinion but, God, he is class.
“He’s got so much power, so much strength and speed and I haven’t seen anyone hitting passes like he did since the days of Scholes.
“Yet standing that close to him, I was left with the impression that he still has so much more to give. You can see that he finds playing football so easy and there are definitely more gears in there that he can go through.
“He has got everything. The quality of the pass he put round the corner for Anthony Martial was sublime. He could score 20 a season if he had the desire to get in the box like Frank Lampard. If he wanted to, he could sit in midfield and control the game.”
It’s fair to say that Paul Pogba has hardly been tested in midfield by his teammates so far since arriving at the Red Devils last season.
Manchester United currently boast Michael Carrick, Nemanja Matic, Marouane Fellaini, Ander Herrera and Scott McTominay as their midfield options.
It’s clear to see that Matic and Pogba are the club’s first choice options when fielding a two man midfield pairing with the others falling far behind.
To make things worse, both players are likely to have less cover next season than they currently have with Carrick set to retire and Fellaini’s contract running out in the summer.
Herrera has also failed to hit the heights of last season’s form and McTominay is a youngster still learning his trade in the modern game.
