Chelsea have stepped up their interest in January target Ross Barkley and have enquired about Andy Carroll, according to the Daily Mail.
The London outfit saw a late move for the 24-year old Everton midfielder fall through in August, after he opted to continue his injury rehabilitation on Merseyside.
However, the Blues’ interest in the player hasn’t wavered, and Antonio Conte is determined to conclude the deal as soon as possible with Barkley having recently returned to first-team training.
Andy Carroll meanwhile has been targeted as a potential back-up to Álvaro Morata. Despite enduring a injury-hit time with West Ham, Carroll scored two vital goals against West Brom earlier this week.
Signing Carroll could see Chelsea let Michy Batshuayi leave, with strong rumours suggesting the Belgian is surplus to requirements having been around for quite some time.
Carroll cost West Ham £15million from Liverpool in 2013, and the Hammers would expect to recoup their money back if Chelsea firm up their interest in the England international striker.
Barkley would also be reasonably cheap too, with the Wavertree-born playmaker being out of contract in the summer.
Everton manager Sam Allardyce had hoped to convince Barkley to remain on Merseyside, but he is now resigned to the likelihood that he will depart for pastures new.
