Chelsea manager Antonio Conte’s admiration for Tottenham Hotspur striker Fernando Llorente has been well documented over the course of the recent transfer windows.
The Italian tactician worked alongside Llorente at Juventus and enjoyed a successful relationship with the towering Spanish forward. This led him to make a move to sign him from Swansea last summer, but Conte saw his efforts prove to be of no avail as he opted to join forces with Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham.
Since then, though, he has not enjoyed a great deal of success. He has been playing second fiddle to the prolific Harry Kane and now, according to the Independent, Conte is ready to make yet another approach for the former Athletic Bilbao forward.
Chelsea have been linked with a surprise move for Andy Carroll in recent weeks and given the emerging reports about Llorente, it would appear that Conte is keen to recruit a target man in January.
Blues forward Alvaro Morata has been struggling to hit the net in recent times and is evidently low on confidence. Conte, as per the Independent, feels Llorente would help his compatriot to get back to his best by offering him support and competition.
Sevilla want to sign Michy Batshuayi from Chelsea this month and it seems Conte will only sanction the move if he can land another deputy striker. Llorente appears to be one of the Italian’s main targets once again.
