Ander Herrera has hailed Jesse Lingard‘s recent superb form in front of goal at Manchester United, encouraging the Englishman to keeping taking on shots in games.
The 25-year-old crowned another nimble, enterprising display in the No.10 role during the 2-0 win over Everton on Monday with a beautiful curling finish to kill the game.
Lingard has now taken his tally for this season to ten goals – already doubling last season’s total – with seven of those coming in his last nine games.
And Herrera, speaking to Sky Sports, was quick to urge the forward to continue in the same vein in 2018.
“It’s fantastic – when you are like that he has to keep trying to shoot, shoot, shoot,” he said.
“I am not in that moment! I shot three times and I didn’t score but I will keep looking for that moment. Jesse has it now. He has to keep trying to shoot but the movements he does for the team are also amazing.
“He’s very quick at the moment as well. No one can catch him. We are happy for him. He wants to improve, he wants to be a fantastic player. You can see in every training session and he’s showing it in the games.”
Lingard has not just scored goals; he has claimed important ones – a welcome trait reinforced by goals in cup finals against Crystal Palace and Southampton before this season.
And over the last few months he has killed the game off against Watford, netted a winning brace against Arsenal, claimed the winner away to West Bromwich Albion, and saved his side from embarrassment against Burnley with a late second half foray.
His appetite for big goals in big moments has always been there, and supporters will just hope he can keep delivering on a regular basis this time around.
