AS Roma defender Emerson Palmieri is due to fly into London either today or tomorrow to undergo a Chelsea medical.
The London Evening Standard reports that the player is keen to complete a move to Stamford Bridge this month, with personal terms due to be agreed in the coming days.
Chelsea will reportedly pay £20 million for the defender who is being brought in to provide competition for Marcos Alonso.
Antonio Conte has spent the first half of the season with just one left-sided defender.
Kenedy has fallen out of Conte’s plans after a disruptive pre-season tour.
The Brazilian is due to leave for Newcastle on loan once a deal for Emerson has been completed.
A deal has been agreed for the player to leave on loan for some time but has been held up to allow Chelsea the time to sign a replacement.
Chelsea are also in looking to sign Edin Dzeko from Roma this month but a deal to bring in the 31-year-old striker is thought to be more complicated.
